Implantation of “Ahmed” drain in glaucoma treatment
The stuff of Luhansk regional centre for eye diseases has mastered a unique anti-glaucomatous surgery with implantation of a special “Ahmed” valve. “Ahmed” valve for glaucoma treatment is a unique technique of intraocular pressure control and normalization.
“Ahmed” valve implantation is effective for all types of glaucoma, due to its unique valving, especially in the cases when conventional treatment does not bring the desirable result. The necessary level of intraocular pressure control is achieved due to the presence of valving in its drainage tubes.
“Ahmed” valve implantation does not lead to vision improvement, but prevents its further deterioration, which is ascribed to normalization of intraocular pressure. It rules out the possibility of hypotension, recurrence of intraocular pressure build-up owing to cicatrization of eye tissues.
Indications: all types of glaucoma resistant to medicamental treatment and unmanageable by conventional surgery.
